Khaby Lame has become the center of another enormous social-media conversation—but this time it has little to do with the silent comedy videos that made him one of the most recognizable creators in the world.
Posts circulating across TikTok, Facebook and other platforms began claiming that Lame was involved in a dramatic divorce dispute in which his wife supposedly demanded a large portion of his fortune.
The story became even more sensational when users claimed that the influencer had protected himself by placing his wealth under his father’s name.
It was exactly the kind of story designed to go viral.
There was only one major problem:
The most dramatic parts of it have not been supported by credible evidence.
Fact-checking outlet Facta investigated the story and found no reliable reporting showing that Lame transferred his fortune to his father in order to prevent an ex-wife from obtaining it during a divorce. The outlet traced versions of the claim back to social-media accounts rather than court documents or authoritative reporting.
There is, however, a real relationship history behind some of the online discussion.
According to Facta, Lame and model Wendy Thembelihle Juel married in a private Muslim ceremony in Senegal in September 2023. The couple reportedly separated approximately a year later because of what Lame’s manager described at the time as an unexpected and irreconcilable incompatibility between them.
From there, however, social media appears to have filled in the blanks.
Posts began alleging that a divorce battle was underway and that Wendy wanted half of Khaby’s fortune. Others claimed she discovered that the money was legally registered in the name of Lame’s father, supposedly leaving her unable to claim it.
Those details spread rapidly because they fit a familiar internet storyline: wealthy celebrity marries, marriage fails, enormous fortune becomes the center of a legal fight, and a surprising financial strategy changes everything.
But viral storytelling and verified reporting are not the same thing.
A July 2026 report examining the rumors noted that there was no public court filing or confirmation from Lame or his representatives supporting the widely circulated claims about a divorce-related financial battle.
The confusion has been amplified by the enormous numbers connected to Khaby Lame’s business career.
In early 2026, headlines around the world reported a transaction involving Lame’s company, Step Distinctive Limited, and Rich Sparkle Holdings with a stated valuation of approximately $975 million.
That figure quickly led to posts describing Lame as having personally received nearly a billion dollars.
The actual arrangement was considerably more complicated.
Reports on the transaction explained that it involved shares rather than a simple $975 million cash payment. Later reporting also raised questions about how the deal would ultimately develop and what its real value would be over time.
That distinction matters.
A company being involved in a transaction valued at hundreds of millions of dollars does not automatically mean that its founder has that same amount sitting in a personal bank account.
Business valuations, stock ownership, licensing rights and personal net worth are different things.
Nevertheless, once the $975 million figure was attached to Lame’s name, it became easy for viral accounts to combine it with the relationship rumors.
Suddenly, posts were talking about a wife supposedly demanding hundreds of millions and a father supposedly holding the fortune.
The story had all the ingredients needed for enormous engagement.
Lame’s rise makes that fascination understandable.
Born in Senegal and raised in Italy, he went from losing a factory job during the COVID-19 pandemic to becoming one of the biggest social-media personalities in the world.
His videos rarely required elaborate dialogue.
Instead, he became famous for silently reacting to unnecessarily complicated “life hacks,” usually ending with his now-famous hand gesture suggesting that the obvious solution had been there all along.
That simple format crossed language barriers and helped him build an audience of more than 160 million TikTok followers.
With that level of fame comes intense curiosity about his finances and private life.
But it also creates the perfect environment for misinformation.
A single unsourced post can be copied hundreds of times until readers assume that repetition itself proves the claim.
It does not.
In this case, there is credible reporting about Lame’s past relationship and separation.
There is credible reporting about major business transactions involving his brand.
But the viral story claiming that an ex-wife attempted to take half of his fortune only to discover that his father legally owned everything is a different matter entirely.
No reliable evidence currently establishes that dramatic version of events.
And perhaps there is something fitting about that conclusion.
Khaby Lame built a career by silently pointing out when people make simple things unnecessarily complicated.
This time, the internet may have done exactly that with his own life.
Behind the viral claims is a much simpler reality: some parts of the story are documented, while the most sensational ones remain internet rumors—not established facts.
